Byford is REACHAU's Home Base

REACHAU operates from Byford Co.Lab at 153 Mead Street, Byford. This means Byford residents and businesses have the most direct access to Britt for group bookings, on-site delivery, and flexible scheduling around local rosters and school calendars.

If you need training done quickly, want to discuss a site-specific program, or are coordinating first aid compliance across multiple teams in the Shire, Byford is the easiest place to start. Walk in, call, or email and you will reach Britt directly.

First Aid for a Community That Is Growing Fast

Byford is one of Australia's fastest-growing regions, shifting from a quiet semi-rural town to a bustling suburban-industrial hub almost in real time. The METRONET Byford Rail Extension, the $42 million Byford Health Hub, new housing estates like The Glades and Beenyup Grove, and a young family demographic arriving in large numbers mean the first aid risk profile here is changing just as quickly as the suburb itself.

New estates are being cleared from bushland. Workers are on active construction corridors. Families are arriving from elsewhere without local knowledge of the snakes, spiders, and fire risks that come with living at the Scarp edge. REACHAU trains for where Byford is heading, not just where it has been.

METRONET and Construction

The Byford Rail Extension and surrounding housing development create a high concentration of site workers on active corridors around South Western Highway and Abernethy Road.

Byford Health Hub

The new $42 million Health Hub awarded in early 2026 is driving demand for healthcare staff with current HLTAID011 and advanced first aid certification before the facility opens.

Childcare and Early Learning

Byford is a young family suburb. Childcare centres and OSHC services require HLTAID012-qualified staff, and regulatory scrutiny in WA has increased the emphasis on compliance.

Urban-Bushland Interface

New estates are being built on land cleared from bush. Dugites, redback spiders, heat stress, and bushfire preparedness are not abstract risks for Byford residents. They are the backyard.

Snakes, Spiders, and New Estates: What First Aiders in the Shire Need to Know

Living in Mundijong and operating out of Byford, this is genuinely part of the local conversation. New estates are being built on land that was bush not long ago. The wildlife does not immediately know it has been relocated. Dugites and redback spiders are common in the foothills and increasingly found in new builds and freshly cleared blocks.

The mistake most people make is doing the wrong thing in the first two minutes. For snake bite, that means washing the bite site or applying a tourniquet, both of which are harmful. For redback bite, it means assuming it is not serious because the person is still standing. Both need the correct response, and both are covered in HLTAID011.

🐍 Dugite Snake Bite

  • Apply pressure immobilisation bandage immediately. Wrap firmly from bite site toward the heart
  • Do not wash the site. Venom on skin helps identify the species at hospital
  • Keep the casualty completely still. Movement accelerates venom spread
  • Call 000 and stay with the casualty
  • Do not cut, suck, or apply a tourniquet. These cause harm

🕷️ Redback Spider Bite

  • Do not apply pressure immobilisation. Pressure makes redback venom worse
  • Apply a cold pack to the bite site to reduce local pain
  • Seek medical attention even if symptoms seem mild. Onset can be delayed
  • Call 000 if the casualty has severe pain, sweating, nausea, or muscle weakness
  • Antivenom is available at hospital. The sooner the better
Why the difference matters

Pressure immobilisation is correct for snake bite and some other venom types, but actively harmful for redback spider bite. HLTAID011 teaches you both responses and explains the reasoning so you make the right call under pressure, not the wrong one from memory of a single rule.

METRONET Roadworks and the Chain of Survival

Ongoing METRONET construction and roadworks around Byford can create significant traffic delays on South Western Highway and surrounding routes. For any business or worksite in the area, this is a practical first aid consideration: in a cardiac arrest, the first three to five minutes are critical, and in a major emergency, your team may be the first link in the chain of survival while services navigate local delays. This is why trained first aiders who can operate an AED and maintain CPR are not just a compliance box in Byford. They are a genuine community asset.

Horse Properties and Equestrian Businesses in the Shire

The Serpentine-Jarrahdale Shire has one of the highest concentrations of equestrian properties in the Perth region. Horse work carries specific first aid risks: crush injuries, falls, kicks, and remote locations where ambulance response is delayed. REACHAU delivers first aid training specifically for the equestrian industry and can bring training on-site to your property.

Your Neighbour. Your Trainer.

Byford is where REACHAU is based and where Britt operates day to day. That makes Byford different from every other location page on this site. The difference is not just convenience. It is genuine local knowledge. Knowing which new estates back directly onto bush. Knowing the seasonal snake activity patterns in the foothills. Knowing what the METRONET works have done to emergency vehicle access on South Western Highway.

That local knowledge shapes how scenarios are built for Byford sessions, and it is the reason the businesses and families in this Shire who train with REACHAU get something no generic provider can offer.

Whether you are a childcare centre director needing compliance sorted before the next inspection, a METRONET subcontractor getting a crew site-ready, or a family that just moved into The Glades and wants to know what to do if a dugite gets into the garden, contact Britt directly and I will find the right option for you.

The way Britt presented our course was amazing. A lot of staff have short attention spans and the way she asked questions made them feel at ease.
