Nationally recognised first aid and CPR training for WA workplaces, run on site around your roster. Scenarios are built from the hazards your team actually faces, so people leave able to act, not just holding a certificate.

What first aid training does a WA workplace need?

Most WA workplaces need enough people trained in HLTAID011 Provide First Aid to cover every shift. Sites where an ambulance could take an hour or more need HLTAID013 Remote or Isolated Site. The person leading your first aid response may need HLTAID014 Advanced First Aid. Childcare and school staff need HLTAID012. Refresh CPR every 12 months and full first aid every 3 years.

Your obligations

What WA Law Asks of Employers

If you run a business or undertaking in Western Australia, the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and the WHS (General) Regulations 2022 put a duty on you to provide first aid. That means three things: the right equipment, access to facilities, and enough trained first aiders for the work you do.

The law does not give one number for every workplace. WorkSafe WA's First aid in the workplace code of practice gives a starting ratio, which you then adjust for your own risks.

Type of workplaceStarting ratioExamples
Low risk1 first aider per 50 workersOffices, shops, libraries
High risk1 first aider per 25 workersConstruction, workshops, warehouses, farms, horse properties
Remote, high risk1 first aider per 10 workersMine sites, stations, isolated farm and field work

From there, the code asks you to look at the most people on site at one time, shifts and weekend work, people working alone, and how far you are from medical help. A small crew on a remote job can need more first aiders than a large office in the city.

The gap most workplaces miss: having a certificate on file is not the same as having someone ready on every shift. If your only first aider works Monday to Friday, your Saturday crew has no cover.

Choosing a course

Which Course for Which Role?

CourseBest forRenewal
HLTAID011 Provide First AidThe standard for most workplace first aiders3 years, CPR yearly
HLTAID009 Provide CPRYearly CPR refresher for current first aiders, or CPR-only roles12 months
HLTAID014 Advanced First AidFirst aid officers and team leaders who run the response3 years, CPR yearly
HLTAID013 Remote or Isolated SiteFarms, mine sites, stations and field crews where help could be an hour or more away3 years, CPR yearly

How it works

On-Site Training, Planned Around Your Work

  1. Tell us about your team. How many people, which courses, your site and your roster.
  2. Britt talks to your safety officer or HR contact. She asks about the real hazards on your site: machinery, chemicals, heat, working at height, lone or remote work.
  3. Online theory first. Participants complete the short online theory before the day, so the session is spent practising.
  4. Practical training at your site. Scenarios are built from your work, using your layout, your access points and your distance to help.
  5. Certificates issued. Each participant who is assessed as competent receives a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

A certificate shows someone passed. Practice in their own workplace is what lets them act when it is real.

We deliver across Perth and regional WA for groups of four or more. For regional and remote sites, the quote includes travel.

Less downtime

No travel to a training centre. Sessions can be split across shifts so the work keeps going.

Relevant scenarios

Your team practises on the incidents most likely to happen at your site, not a generic classroom script.

One provider

Mixed courses in one booking, delivered by the same trainer every time.

Common questions

Workplace First Aid: Frequently Asked Questions

How many first aiders does my workplace need in WA?

Start with WorkSafe WA's code of practice ratios: 1 per 50 workers in a low risk workplace, 1 per 25 in a high risk workplace and 1 per 10 in a remote high risk workplace. Then adjust for the most people on site at once, shifts, lone workers and how far you are from medical help. Every shift needs cover, including weekends.

Can we do first aid training fully online?

No. Nationally recognised first aid includes a practical assessment done in person, such as CPR on a manikin on the floor. Online theory is part of a blended course, but the skills are assessed face to face.

How often does workplace first aid need to be renewed?

CPR is refreshed every 12 months and the full first aid certificate every 3 years. Your industry, insurer or contracts may ask for more, so check those too.

Can you train our team at our own site?

Yes. On-site training is available across Perth and regional WA for groups of four or more. Britt brings the equipment and builds scenarios around your work.

Can one session cover different courses?

Usually, yes. For example, most staff can do HLTAID011 while current first aiders do their yearly HLTAID009 CPR refresher. Tell us the mix when you ask for a quote.

Does our workplace need an AED?

There is no blanket rule that every workplace must have one, but your first aid risk assessment should consider an AED, especially where many people gather, electrical work is done or an ambulance could take a long time. Early defibrillation is one of the biggest factors in surviving a cardiac arrest.

Which course should our first aid officer do?

HLTAID011 is the standard. If your first aid officer leads the response, manages other first aiders or works at a higher risk site, HLTAID014 Advanced First Aid is the better fit. For remote sites, HLTAID013 covers longer casualty care.

Do you train in regional and remote WA?

Yes. Regional and remote delivery is a core part of what REACHAU does, from the Wheatbelt to the north-west. Send your location and group size and we will quote including travel.
